Bench press, chest flies, leg raises, dips and dumbbell rows are just a few possible exercises that can be performed with only an ordinary weightlifting bench. However, the addition of a few simple accessories to a weightlifting bench further opens up the range of possible exercises, allowing targeting of virtually the entire body.
For example, adding a curl attachment allows the bench to be used for exercises that that isolate the biceps and related muscles. A military press attachment allows the bench to be used for seated shoulder press exercises. It is also possible to modify the bench with attachments to target the lower body; they are available for both leg curls, which primarily work the glutes and hams on the back of the legs, and for leg extensions, which primarily work the quads on the front of the legs.
